(Lands End, Mousehole)

Today we continued to pursue PJG father’s footsteps, we went to Lands’ End and Mousehole (pronounced Mouzel). Today is Father’s Day,  he said it made it even more special 😊.

PJG drove the car for 10-hours, really crazy! The country roads in England are really different! There are many small tiny roads and passing cars is very difficult, sometimes impossible since it barely fits one car. In some cases, one car has to back up all the way down the road to a wider spot to let the others pass! But still this is a very interesting experience, we only needed to back up once 😅 today, but stopped many times to make way for another. This kind of thing seems to be commonplace here, and it seems that the British are accustomed to it as every time we pull to the side, or give way, each driver will gesture to each other to express their gratitude. In fact, it is very easy to drive in England because they all follow the same rules, driving in the left lane, overtaking in the right lane, very orderly, so it is more efficient and safer.

This photo is a screenshot of the video I took, and this is one of those paths that can only fit one car. These tall plants are on both sides of the country road.

Lands’ End

The Lands’ End is one of the most southerly points in Britain, and the translation of Chinese names is really romantic – in Chinese it translates to “The Ends of the Earth”. James’ father went to this same place in 1949. The scenery here is very beautiful, there are green grasslands, majestic rolling seas, strange rocks and much more! Unfortunately, today’s weather is not very good, from time to time the rain, and the fog is so bad we could not even see the sea.

PJG应该会自己写一篇博客然后把两张照片放到一起 🙂 PJG’s father took a picture in front of this house and PJG tried to recreate the situation, but unfortunately his father was more handsome than he was .  His father’s picture was in his hand. The name of the house is written on the roof. PJG said later he would write a blog and put the two photos together.
There are a lot of these small pink flowers dotting the huge green space to add a gentle charm.
Many of the stones here are covered with moss; green, white and yellow, which adds a unique flavor to the stones and this area.

Mousehole

This is a small fishing village that PJG’s father and aunt came to in 1949. The Chinese translation is just based on the pronunciation; it would be fun if the translation was based on the English characters, because it actually would be “mouse hole”  😅😅😅. Walking through the small fishing village makes me suddenly feel like I’m in Lijiang (a famous small town in China); the narrow alleys, the cobblestone road, the stone moss, and the kind of leisurely and natural feeling of the town.  The kind of flowers and grass here are an embellishment of the people, although the style is not the same, the beautiful scenery gives me the same feeling.  😊 I feel the British have a respect for their history – there are many houses which are hundreds of years old, although some have become worn out, they have still been preserved, and some people still live in them! There is a house here with more than 500 years of history and a small restaurant has been here for more than 160 years! Compared it with China, a 160 years old house in China, the people living there would find a way to tear it down and rebuild to make it new, instead of preserving the history.

A rope is tied to the boat docked in the harbor, when the tide comes in, the sea will flow, raising the boats – but we did not wait until that time.

This place completely illustrates the unique and exquisite beauty of Cornwall; there are many people here who stay to explore every small detail, but PJG and I only planned to stay here only for a short time. If there is a chance, I would like to come here again to more fully understand this unique place.
