(Brick Lane, Kensington Palace)

Brick Lane

We’ve been walking for many days already, and we feel really tired. Last night we came home very late from Susan’s and this morning we are basically staying home to rest and finally went out at around 12 noon. The first place we went was Brick Lane market. The main reason we went there is to find an authentic Indian restaurant to make up for the big Indian meal disappointment from the other day. We had heard of this place from the man from in the pub the other night –  he said that many of the immigrants from India and Pakistan go there, and had opened many inexpensive and tasty restaurants.

We went there by a direct tube line from our place. It’s a coincidence that today happens to be the Sunday market, which is bigger than usual and it’s also much bigger than the Borough market, the Camden market and the Covent Garden markets we have been to earlier. This market is very local, selling all kinds of cheap trinkets, various street snacks, Asian food stalls, especially Chinese food, which are ready made buffet style, such as Sweet and sour chicken, Chow Mein; all kinds of small ornaments, clothes, bags, handicrafts and so on. There are also lots of interesting graffiti and street performances.

I’ll blog about our Indian food separately.

There are a lot of Indian and Bangladeshi people here, and even the street signs have a second language attached, but unfortunately I can’t tell if it is Hindi or Bengali.

She sang her own songs, selling her own cd for 5GBP :-), there were many people watching, her singing was really nice.

These sausages are really big..
Chinese cuisine

Perhaps because we’re older, strolling this kind of market doesn’t seem as interesting. We just come to this kind of place to look at all kinds of interesting people and for the experience.

Kensington Palace

Before going to Kensington Palace, we went to see a cool pub, called Churchill Bar. The bar was built in 1750, and in the 1800 ‘s, Churchill’s grandfather and grandmother were regulars at the bar, and after WWII being called Churchill’s Bar. The bar is unique because of its distinctive and beautiful floral arrangement and hanging baskets outside. And this beautiful little bar shows a different view for every season.

From Churchill Bar, it only takes about 10 minutes to walk to Kensington Palace. The palace has been the residence of members of the royal family since 1689. Prince William, Duchess Kate and their two children now live there, although of course their palaces are not open to tourists. But it’s really amazing to see the place where the royal family lived and worked in the past. It’s not as luxurious as imagined, but it’s not that kind of splendid decoration everywhere. PJG said he had been to Kensington Palace before, but couldn’t remember the exact year.

The plaque above me reads, “Where the Trump Russia saga began”

A few doors down, there is another bar that PJG wanted to see. It is the bar that one of the Trump Russia players met in which kicked off the whole investigation. haha 😂😂😂😀

Amazing ceilings.

In 1837, Princess Victoria lived in Kensington Palace, and one morning she woke up to find her Uncle, the King William IV dead. So she became Queen at the age of 18. That morning she opened the first meeting of the Council in this room, which the following photo depicts.

Many of the fashions that Princess Diana wore before were also exhibited here.

The Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace, Princess Diana has loved this garden.

Today’s London is hotter, we’re getting tired, tonight we simply had a pizza and went back to our place to rest, and also gave me time to blog for today.

  2. I don’t remember visiting Kensington Palace probably because we visited many buildings and churches during our travels. If I went there again perhaps I would remember visiting. I like your photos. Churchill’s pub looks very pretty on the outside, did it look any different from other pubs on the inside? You took so many interesting photos of food but then didn’t try anything, just had boring pizza!!

    1. James said you would be the one who remembers when you guys were there. We did not really go inside the Churchill’s pub, just did a quick glance. It looked like a normal British Pub. and YES you are soo right, we did not get to have any of the interesting food! After we had lunch at an Indian restaurants for lunch, we saw those food stands!
