Week 5 In George Town- A Special Day

From March 25th to March 31st, 2024, it was the fifth week we spent in Penang, Malaysia.

On March 25th, we moved into our new apartment called Gurney Ville, located closer to George Town, where we will spend the remaining two months in Penang. The moving process went smoothly.

While I was busy with work, PJG made two trips back and forth, cleverly setting up the network and my workspace in our new home. By the time I finished work at 4 p.m., I officially joined our new residence. On the same day, my sister Wei used Grab independently for the first time and explored the Tropical Spice Garden on her own. The following week flew by quickly; I worked normally every day while Wei went out exploring on her own. On Friday evening, we went together to our favorite spot – Love Lane, where Wei played Jengo for the first time.

The sun rises over the new apartment.
Refreshing beer paired with playing Jengo.

Wei竟然遇到了几位大名人 – Wei unexpectedly encountered several famous people!

周五去吃意大利菜的路上,看到了香火旺盛的“观音亭”,这个佛教庙宇建于1728年,是槟城最古老的佛教庙 – On the way to have Italian food on Friday, we saw the bustling “Guan Yin Pavilion,” a Buddhist temple built in 1728, making it the oldest Buddhist temple in Penang.

Upside Down Museum

On March 30th, Saturday, also Wei’s last day of this trip to Malaysia – In the morning, we visited the Upside Down Museum, which was a very interesting place; the photos we took there will become timeless memories.

Before dinner, PJG thoughtfully prepared a bottle of champagne, not only to raise a toast to Wei’s departure but also to celebrate her first international trip and the many “firsts” she experienced. In return, Wei treated us to a sumptuous seafood feast as dinner, marking the perfect exclamation point for this family gathering in a foreign land!

The champagne here is surprisingly much more expensive than in the US (All alcohol is)
The seafood restaurant (Da Shu Xia) is a very popular place.
I finally got to eat the Mantis Shrimp I’ve been craving day and night since we arrived!

On March 31st, Sunday, before 6:30 in the morning, we called a Grab to go to the airport. Despite waiting nervously for the Grab for at least 20 minutes, Wei successfully completed the immigration procedures and arrived safely in Guangzhou, China by noon. After returning from the airport, I decided to get a beautiful manicure, and then PJG and I watched a Chinese movie called “YOLO.” It’s been a long time since I watched a Chinese movie in the cinema, and this time it was mainly to support the female director and contribute to her movie’s box office. For dinner, we chose a fish hot pot restaurant near our home in the mall. Unexpectedly, there were four other tables celebrating their birthdays. Therefore, I indirectly enjoyed four birthday songs and the waiters’ birthday dance performances, which made me feel particularly happy.

The queue for checking in was very long.
I chose a bright red color for my birthday nails, hooray!

- Here, movie tickets are surprisingly cheap. The regular price is 19 Ringgits, and PJG even enjoyed an 8 Ringgit discount. (about 5 bucks for two)
Fish hot pot with a straw hat used as a lid.

They were singing and dancing for me, hooray!

Both PJG and I are very happy to see my sister bravely succeeding on this overseas trip. We hope she not only had a wonderful experience but also will have more opportunities like this in the future.
