Wei’s Notes From Her Visit – 魏的访问笔记

On the last day of Wei’s trip while we were drinking Champagne, she read from some notes she had prepared. I asked her if it was ok to publish them here on the blog as I thought they were touching. I used the AI Claude 3 Opus to extract the Chinese characters from the hand written notes and then translated it into English. Then ZY checked it and made a few corrections.

Ten days passed by quickly. I’m going home. Thanks to James and JoAnne for everything they’ve done for me, which made me to have this trip to Malaysia. I experienced many firsts in my life on this trip. First time traveling abroad. First time having a private tour guide. First time going up the tallest building – a 68 floor, 251m high castle. The Top in Penang is also my tallest which challenged my courage.

第一次见到那么多从未见过的热带水果、香料植物，奇花异草。 第一次在碧蓝的大海边和酒。第一次品尝了印度菜， 泰国菜，娘惹菜，马来西亚特色小吃、意大利菜。 第一次在异国使用ATM提款机。 第一次使用Grab 打车。 第一次吃榴莲冰淇淋，喝榴莲饮料。第一次喝香槟酒。

For the first time, I saw so many tropical fruits, spices, plants, and exotic flowers that I had never seen before. Sitting by the ocean and having a cocktail for the first time. For the first time, I tasted Indian cuisine, Thai cuisine, Nyonya cuisine, Malaysian local dishes, and Italian cuisine. For the first time, I used an ATM machine in a foreign country. For the first time, I used Grab to call a taxi. For the first time, I ate durian ice cream and durian beverages.

我是一个缺少自信的人，这无疑增加了我的勇气，使我在生活中更加勇敢前行。多了这么多体验，感知了世界的丰富多彩，体会了妹妹的生活，为她感到高兴。中国有位作家，我很喜欢她的一句话，“人生就是一场体验，请你尽兴。”

I am a person who lacks self-confidence, and this trip undoubtedly increased my courage and made me more brave in life. With so many more experiences, I have come to understand the richness and diversity of the world, appreciate my younger sister’s life, and feel happy for her. There is a writer in China, and I really like one of her quotes: “Life is an experience, please enjoy it to the fullest.”

另外一位作家说过，“在旅游中修正自己的偏见和主观，才是好的旅游。”我很喜欢这句话，也希望通过旅游改变自己的认知，由向外到向内，更好地完善自己。再次感谢，并期待未来我们在某个风景优美的地方再见。

Another writer once said, “Correcting one’s prejudices and subjectivity through travel is what makes for good travel.” I really like this quote and also hope that through traveling, I can change my own perceptions, moving from looking outward to looking inward, and better improve myself.
