We were going to the Hakaniemi market today for lunch to eat the famous salmon soup from a stall there. However, when we arrived at the place, we found that the original two-story market was being renovated, and the stall was moved to a nearby market.
After wandering around twice, we couldn’t find the stall that sold the famous salmon soup, but we found a different stall that sold three kinds of soup. It looks like the customers are all locals. PJG and I each ordered a soup and the restaurant offered unlimited free bread.
Olive oil infused with fresh herbs and delicious with slices of bread.
PJG’s Chili con Carne with lemon yoghurt has beef, corn kernels, two other bean kernels, tomatoes, chunks of potatoes, and the white stuff is a lemon yoghurt sauce. This soup has a peculiar flavor of herbs that I’ve never had before, don’t know what it is, but it tastes very strange. PJG drank the whole bowl!
My seafood soup contains a lot of salmon, mussels, shrimp, shredded potatoes, shredded carrots, diced celery, and onions. I can’t tell what the sauce on it is. It’s a bit like butter, but it has flavor. The soup is delicious, it’s a very fresh taste, and all the seafood is cooked just right.
By the way, I have a lot of difficulty remembering Finnish words, let alone memorizing them. Just seeing a word is often difficult to read, because Finnish words are long ~ ah ~ ~ So, most of the time I can’t remember the name. I was curious to check longest Finnish word is? According to wikipedia, the answer is 61 letters! !
“lentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottoriapumekaanikkoaliupseerioppilas”
This is a military word, and apparently it is not very commonly used. The other two Finnish words that are regularly used in daily life are 32 and 34 letters respectively.
