Well, about two weeks before our trip, we both came down with Covid after going two years without getting it! We were being careful, wearing masks in public etc. but I guess we let our guard down. So since this is our Covid 22 Trip, I should tell you a little about the experience we had having Covid.
We went out to celebrate PJMs birthday and although we were still a little concerned about Covid, the cases had been dropping dramatically and things seemed to be improving. We normally do take out or at least eat outside at restaurants, but this time we didn’t. We sat inside at a bar and then inside at a restaurant. Masks were still used when going to the restroom, but mostly they were off. So this was on a Friday night, and about Sunday I started to feel a little tightness in my chest, but didn’t suspect Covid.
By Monday morning I could tell I was definitely getting sick, with some early flu like symptoms, and a dry cough. So Monday night, after getting a low temperature, I used one of the BinaxNow tests we had stored away to test myself. I was negative; which was a bit of a relief, although only temporary!
By Tuesday morning I was very obviously sick and the fever was rising. I had sensitive skin, more coughing and overall malaise and body aches. I started to assume it was Covid, but was going to wait until Wednesday to retest. PJM also started to have a little cough. Tuesday was by far the worst in terms of symptoms and when Wednesday morning came, I quickly got out the 2nd BinaxNow test and retested myself; sure enough I was Covid-19 Positive.
After Wednesday it was mostly a low grade fever and headaches with most of the flu symptoms gone. PJM seemed to be a few days behind me and was suffering mostly mild symptoms. By Sunday I was feeling much better, not fine, but no fever and much happier. So much so that I was able to get this website going and write this post π
We think we were lucky to get Covid when we did. My doctor said it was likely the BA.2 variant which is very easy to catch. Had we got covid a week later, it would have affected our trip, and if we got Covid during our trip, well of course that would have been really bad.
We are leaving in 10 days on April 19th, I’ll do another post to summarize our trip planning and details on our itinerary.
