April 29th to May 5th, 2024, marking the tenth week of the Malaysia trip.
The week following our return from Vietnam was very peaceful, with everything at work resuming its normal rhythm.
On Thursday, we discovered a rooftop bar called “360-Degree Rotating Restaurant.” From here, we had a closer bird’s-eye view of George Town’s scenery.

On Friday, we discovered a hawker center by the beach called Northam, which was about a 22-minute walk from our apartment. Most of the customers here were Malaysian Chinese. Surprisingly, the evening band performance featured Chinese songs, including Hokkien and Cantonese tunes. Many of Teresa Teng’s classics were played, as well as songs by Paula Tsui and Andy Lau. These melodies evoked my memories of the golden era of Hong Kong. Amidst these nostalgic tunes, quite a few diners even got up and started dancing ballroom dances.

On Saturday evening, we went back to Batu Ferringhi Beach to watch the sunset. The weather was clear, without any rude interruptions from thunderstorms. On this tranquil night, we enjoyed a perfect sunset. The sun slowly sank, turning the sky red, and the shimmering waves on the sea surface seemed particularly charming under the sunset’s glow. This perfect scene allowed us to experience the tranquility and beauty of nature, adding an unforgettable touch of color to our weekend.

On Sunday morning around 8am, PJG and I set off for Penang National Park, starting a two-hour hiking challenge. The entrance ticket for foreigners at the National Park was 50 Ringgits, but the advantage of having PJG was that his ticket was free (by being so old)! It was a rather difficult hike, with rugged and uneven mountain paths covered with rocks, tree roots, and slippery fallen leaves. The high humidity made the environment even more physically challenging. After hiking for just a short while, we were already drenched in sweat. Less than halfway through, PJG’s short-sleeved shirt was literally completely soaked with sweat. After two hours of effort, we finally completed this assault on the tropical rainforest. Yeah! Although the process was full of challenges, the sense of satisfaction after completing the hike was indescribable.

On the left is a map of all the hiking trails in Penang National Park, and on the right is the loop trail that we completed.

We’re both getting a little exhausted from traveling, and I’m especially getting tired of getting up for work every morning at 6am! Two more weeks in Penang!

The Rooftop bar you discovered did have great views, and what a lovely night you had back at Ferringhi Beach.
Your challenging hike in the National Park showed how physically fit you both are! Great job!
Physically fit might be a stretch…
