Tuesday, South America, Day 6

We have a lot of things to do today. We woke up at 8am in the morning and went to the hotel’s “free” breakfast. It is said that PJG uses his Marriott’s points to include breakfast, haha.

The match between Argentina and Saudi Arabia is almost over. Saudi Arabia beat Argentina 2-1, which is unbelievable.

The first thing after breakfast we went to the Western Union to withdraw money. From what I had seen on the Internet, in addition to going to Florida Street to find people who exchange money at the blue exchange rate, Western Union also provides services for exchanging money at the blue exchange rate. The exchange rate we both got today is 328.82 pesos to the US dollar, which is the best exchange rate so far, and there is no handling fees. I really don’t know how Western Union makes any money. It’s incredible.

The line is not too long.
It took more than 30 minutes from queuing to withdrawing money, and you need to provide your passport and accommodation information.

A total of 98,646 Argentine pesos were exchanged for 300 US dollars. With such a large amount of money, we feel like a rich people here, haha.

We found a laundry near the hotel. The owner turned out to be Chinese. It is much easier to communicate in Chinese, but why do I feel that she charges us too much? It costs 750 pesos for a small basket and 1100 pesos for a large one. Ours seemed like a small basket, but she charged us 1,100, maybe she feels like we’re tourists. Oh well.

We left the clothes at the laundry, and went to look for a place to buy a phone card. Without the Internet, it is difficult to move around here, because you need Google translation software to talk to the locals. We went to a Movistar phone store, but they didn’t sell cards. They said they are sold at the small kiosk on the street. We went to Florida Street and asked a kiosk selling groceries. They did, it was Claro, from Argentina – 1,000 pesos for a 2GB card, sounded cheap, we bought one. Then we went to another small store to buy another card for PJG. There happened to be an employee working in Claro there, and he spoke English. With his help, we bought a 12GB card for 1,870 pesos.

The small shop for phone cards
The guy who helped us with the cards
后来一问他的名字是Brian, 和PJG的二哥同名 – Later we asked his name, he was Brian, the same name as PJG’s second brother

We walking around the streets for the whole morning, it was past 1 pm, and we found a restaurant for lunch.

Like many shopping malls in China, there are small vendors like this, which are not seen much in the US.
The area we are in is a commercial district, a bit like Jiefangbei in Chongqing, Wangfujing in Beijing, or any pedestrian commercial street in any Chinese city. Although it is very prosperous, I don’t like it much.
My empenadas
This one is spicy minced beef, not bad
Someone’s chicken caesar salad
0.0067 – When we were having lunch, this person kept shouting, “Cambio, Cambio~”, I don’t know how many customers he can get in a day, today’s exchange price is 1:300, which is 0.0067 higher than yesterday

After lunch, we completed our last task – we bought a bus card called SUBE, which is for public transportation such as buses and subways. After searching for a while, we found a small kiosk selling cards, 500 pesos, plus 500 pesos for recharge. The person who recharged said that the general cost of a subway is 40 pesos per person.

The kiosk for selling cards
This shop selling lottery tickets can recharge the transportation cards
For the World Cup, their big flag is flying.
This kind of place also has traces of Europe
There are many shops selling gold and jewelry in the place where you buy a transportation card, and the whole street is full of such flashing signs.
Walking through the streets here is a bit like walking in Hong Kong’s jewelry district.
Two men: one is thinking about which one to buy for his wife, and the other is thinking about leaving quickly, hahaha
– On the way back to the hotel, we happened to see this protest. A lot of people came to the protest march organized by the Picket Unit social movement and the Polo Obrero trade union to protest the working conditions caused by the rising inflation rate.
We wandered around nearby the hotel, but couldn’t find a restaurant I liked, so we went to back the barbecue restaurant we were at last night.
Tried this salad, there is no salad dressing here, just give you olive oil and Italian vinegar, add yourself and mix
Tonight I ordered a roast suckling pork ribs and it was ok, but very greasy.
There is this kind of charcoal fire under the barbecue ordered by each guest, which can continue to be grilled at the guests table
PJG点了一份阿根廷饺子,他没点酱料,所以没什么味道,哈哈 – PJG ordered an Argentinian tortellini, he didn’t order the sauce, so it didn’t taste good … lol
We did a lot of things today, and after dinner we sat on the balcony of the hotel club for a glass of wine.

All in all a very nice day. The weather is improving and we have decided to go early to Uruguay so tomorrow we need to go buy our tickets!

  2. James on the sea wall.
Maybe everyone is charged a large basket and a small is one piece of clothing!
    Brian is a good name.
You only see small vendors inside the malls at Christmas time.
So the sauce is sold separately, how does one know that?
Good thing your plans are flexible. I’m late commenting because of Thanksgiving.
