Today is our last day in hot and burning Santiago. It was a relatively relaxing day. As soon as we left our apartment in the morning, we smelled a strong smell of burning paper. We went downstairs and though the outside door of the community, and saw many fire trucks fighting a fire in an apartment right near us! Smoke was billowing out of an apartment and water was being poured onto the flames! I wanted to go over to take some pictures, but a policeman stopped me, with a very visible “NO” -he wouldn’t let me get nearer. Indeed a burning day! Hope there were no casualties.
We walked for more than 15 minutes to the famous Central Market in Santiago. Before we came here, we saw many Youtubers who said they recommended to come here to eat the seafood. Opened in 1872, the market replaced the Plaza Abasto, which was destroyed by fire in 1864. The market sells all kinds of seafood, vegetables, fruits, fresh meat and so on. As for me, I basically came here with high hopes and left very disappointed.
Almost all shops and restaurants are closed on Sunday. It seems that when planning a trip in the future, Sunday must be planned as a day to travel to the next destination. There were very few restaurants open, so we found a Peruvian restaurant near the hotel for dinner.
Our short time in Santiago has come to an end. I feel that if I just visited the city, it would be enough time. But with a few more days, we could go to the Andes Mountains to climb mountains and see the natural landscapes. We’re going to Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina tomorrow. Will it feel a lot like Santiago?
I liked the mask child mural.
The firefighters must have been worried that you would get in their way or get hurt.
The Homeless are everywhere, I wish the USA would solve this problem.
James should have joined the dancers, that would have been exciting to see!
The old Catholic Church is a pretty pink building.
We have a Saturday market in Puyallup that sells fresh local vegetables, food to eat, and various crafts.
I think we sell dead fish on ice because it is easier to see what you want to buy and then don’t have to see the live fish being killed by the seller.
You must have been served a very dead fish, it didn’t come from a tank!
Your dessert looks delicious.
Sounds like overall the food in Santiago was disappointing.
On to better food at your next city.
市场里面还有雕像,很有趣。
周日店铺不开,说明当地人不会为挣钱而拼命。
你的胆子好大呀,小费还敢讲。
