November 29, 2023, Wednesday, the sixth day of our Mexico trip.
今天的行程又给我俩的旅游生活增添了一个独特的体验。我俩一大早徒步前往地铁站,计划乘坐地铁去体验著名的2号线缆车公交。谁知道,在去地铁的路上,我们竟然在一个轻轨站意外买到了两张公交卡——这真是个小小的惊喜!
Today’s itinerary added a unique experience to our travel plans. Early in the morning, we walked to the subway station, planning to take the subway to experience the famous Line 2 cable car bus. Unexpectedly, on our way to the subway, we found a machine that was selling the metro cards! — a pleasant little surprise! Metro cards allow us to use all types of transportation.
坐上缆车公交,我们开始了这段独特的体验。票价很便宜,只需7比索,一节车厢里最多能做10个人。随着缆车在轨道上缓缓前行,大约40分钟、10.6公里的行程让我们有了充足的时间欣赏沿途风光。窗外,五彩缤纷的房子和屋顶上的墙绘构成了一幅幅活泼的城市画卷,每一幕都透露着墨西哥城独有的艺术气息和生活方式。据说屋顶的墙绘就是因为这个缆车系统才诞生的。
The Cable Bus system was built to provide transportation to the very poor neighborhoods in Mexico City; but it also quickly became a draw for tourists! So, as tourists, we boarded the cable car bus and began this unique experience. The fare was very cheap, only 7 Pesos, one car can fit in at most 10 people. As the cable car slowly moved along the track, the approximately 40-minute, 10.6-kilometer journey with 8 stops, gave us ample time to appreciate the scenery along the way. Outside the window, the colorful houses and rooftop murals formed lively urban canvases, each scene revealing the unique artistic flair and lifestyle of Mexico City. Thousands of rooftop murals came into existence because of the cable car system giving a new medium for artists!
“Cablebús” (缆车公交车)是墨西哥城的一个相对较新的缆车公交系统项目,这个系统旨在改善城市的公共交通,特别是那些地形复杂、交通不便的区域。第一条和第二条线路都是在2021年开始运营的,为市民提供了一个新的、高效的交通选择,同时也成为游客体验墨西哥城的新途径。我俩当时在去看金字塔的大巴上看到的空中的缆车,当时PJG就激动得说一定要去体验一下。
The ‘Cablebús’ is a relatively new transit system in Mexico City, designed to improve public transportation, especially in areas with complex terrain and inconvenient access. The first and second lines started operating in 2021, providing citizens with a new and efficient mode of transportation and also becoming a novel way for tourists to experience Mexico City. We first saw the aerial cable cars on the bus while going to see the pyramids, and PJG was so excited that he insisted we must try it.
到了终点站,我俩在车站下面的一家地道的小店享用了午餐,午餐后,我俩再次乘坐缆车,沉浸在回程中的美丽风光里。
At the final stop, we had lunch at a very local small restaurant below the station. Then, after lunch, we returned on the cable car, immersing ourselves in the beautiful scenery for the return journey.
坐缆车公交返回到地铁站后,我俩又来到了壮丽的墨西哥艺术宫。墨西哥艺术宫是位于墨西哥城中心的一座标志性建筑,也是墨西哥最重要的文化中心之一。它是由意大利建筑师亚当·博亚尔特设计,始建于1904年,经历了多次改动和中断,最终在1934年完工。艺术宫内部装饰着许多墨西哥著名画家的壁画,其中包括迭戈·里维拉的。
After returning to the subway station via the cable car, we went to the magnificent Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City (Palacio de Bellas Artes) . The Palace of Fine Arts is a landmark building located in the center of Mexico City and is one of Mexico’s most important cultural centers. It was designed by the Italian architect Adamo Boari in 1904, and underwent several changes and interruptions, finally being completing in 1934. Inside the Palace of Fine Arts are murals by many famous Mexican painters, including Diego Rivera.

看完了艺术宫里的大型墙绘,我俩本打算去对面的Sear大楼8楼的咖啡馆享受咖啡时光,并俯瞰艺术宫。不料却遇到了小雨,咖啡厅只接待外卖,我俩点了外卖之后,找到了一个属于我们两个的独特的角落,品咖啡欣赏艺术宫。
After viewing the large murals in the Palace of Fine Arts, we had planned to go to a fancy café on the 8th floor of the Sears building across the street to enjoy coffee while overlooking the Palace. However, we encountered light rain, and the café was only serving takeout. After ordering our takeout, we found a unique corner just for us, where we enjoyed our coffee and admired the Palace of Fine Arts from above.
喝完了咖啡,坐地铁和轻轨回酒店休息,地铁的人真的超多,感觉回到了以前在北京上班挤地铁的生活。尤其是这个站,上车的人特别多,因为有我在北京的实战经验,我在关门之前挤上车后,PJG被成功地关在了门外,哈哈,我看着他的伤心的脸坐着车缓缓的离开了这个车站。在重新团聚之后,也是因为买到了公交卡,今天是第一次坐轻轨列车,车上有专为女士用的车厢。
After finishing our coffee, we took the subway and light rail back to the hotel to rest. The subway was really crowded, reminding me of my past life commuting by subway in Beijing. In fact today the car was so packed I got on the train but PJG could not get on before the doors shut. I watched his sad face on the platform as the train moved away without him.
After being reunited, we took the light rail train since we now had the transit cards. We saw there are carriages specifically designated for women on the train.
今天又是愉快又轻松的一天,虽然坐地铁的经历有点儿像打仗,但是坐缆车公交的体验是目前为止独一无二的,尤其是看到那些在身下缓缓滑过的独特的彩色的房子。本来我以为我会产生高空空绝症,在PJG的说服下,我踏进了空中的缆车,完全没有恐惧,只有欣赏和愉悦。没想到墨西哥城今天给了我一个惊喜。
Today was another pleasant and relaxing day. Although the subway experience was a bit like a battle, the cable car bus experience was very unique, especially seeing those colorful houses slowly sliding below us. Initially, I thought I might have a great fear of heights, but with PJG’s persuasion, I stepped into the aerial cable car without any fear, feeling only admiration and pleasure. ‘
Unexpectedly, Mexico City gave us more surprises today.

What a wonderful way to see the city. The homes are very colorful. From your post I gather there was no reason to take the cables except to see the scenery. What did the poor use it for? Job to home?
Fortunately you both must have known the stop to get off or else be stranded alone! That situation would have made me very nervous.

空中缆车设计的真好,我都想去坐坐了。你俩真是不虚此行啊,多了一个奇妙的体验。

看着你俩,一个在拥挤的地铁车厢擦边挤进去了,一个在站台上有点孤单,又想笑又着急,好在很快相聚了。
那个大型壁画很壮观。这里的艺术氛围很好啊。
